Beer Me
How I created a mobile-first craft beer app that makes discovering new brews intuitive, engaging, and tailored to each user’s unique taste.
Overview
Beer Me is a mobile-first craft beer discovery app designed to help users explore new brews with confidence.
The goal was to simplify the complex world of craft beer by guiding users through a personalized selection flow—ultimately curating a custom 4-pack based on their taste preferences.
This project involved the full UX lifecycle: research, personas, competitive analysis, user flows, wireframes, branding, and a polished high-fidelity prototype. The final design focuses on clean navigation, modern visuals, and a guided step-by-step experience that makes choosing beer feel approachable and fun for both newcomers and seasoned drinkers.

Already familiar with beer styles and breweries but wants a curated way to find something new and interesting.
Goals: Explore unique flavors and try beers they wouldn’t normally pick.
Pain Points: Apps feel cluttered, browsing takes too long, recommendations aren’t personalized.
What They Need: A quick, smart recommendation tool tailored to their preferences.

Wants to enjoy craft beer but often feels intimidated by terminology, endless options, and inconsistent recommendations.
Goals: Discover beers they’ll enjoy without guessing.
Pain Points: Too many styles, confusing labels, not enough simple guidance.
What They Need: A friendly, educational flow that simplifies decisions.
Research and Discovery
To understand how users discover craft beer—and why many feel overwhelmed—I conducted light user interviews, reviewed behavior patterns at local breweries, and analyzed popular beer-related apps. The goal was to validate whether a guided, preference-based selection flow would reduce choice paralysis and help users feel more confident choosing new beers.
Key Takeaways
Research revealed that new drinkers often feel overwhelmed by too many choices, while experienced users want faster, more personalized discovery. Competitor apps offered data-heavy experiences but lacked a simple, guided way to match users with beers they’d enjoy. These insights confirmed the need for a clean, step-by-step flow centered around taste preferences and reduced decision fatigue.

Tavour
Focuses on curated beer purchases, but discovery is heavily commerce-driven rather than taste-driven.

Vivino
Uses guided taste profiles for wine discovery — strong proof that preference-based flows improve confidence and engagement.

Untappd
Large community-based beer app with deep data and check-ins, but the UI is cluttered and overwhelming for beginners.
Competitive Analysis
The Question:
How might we create a guided beer discovery experience that reduces overwhelm and delivers confident, personalized recommendations?
The Goal:
Build a simple, taste-driven discovery flow that helps any user—beginner or enthusiast—quickly find beers they’ll enjoy through a clean, mobile-first experience.
The Problem:
Most craft beer apps leave users unsure where to start, layering on cluttered interfaces, and tons of information that overwhelm rather than guide.
Define The Problem
The Solution
The solution was to design a guided, taste-driven mobile experience that simplifies beer discovery into a clear, step-by-step flow. Each screen was crafted to reduce cognitive load, highlight key decisions, and help users build a personalized flavor profile without needing prior beer knowledge.
Prototype
I translated the user flow into low-fidelity wireframes to map the core experience, then refined them into high-fidelity screens that established the final visual direction. The prototype brings the full taste-guided journey to life through a smooth, mobile-first experience.

Reflection
Redesigning Eppig Brewing’s website reinforced the importance of designing for real user behavior—especially on mobile. Focusing on hierarchy, clarity, and reusable components helped create an experience that not only looks modern but performs well across every page and device. This project strengthened my approach to mobile-first UX, scalable design systems, and delivering measurable business impact through thoughtful design.
